Halliburton Signs CTP to deliver Well Operations Crew Resource Management Training

American multinational, Halliburton, one of the world’s largest oil field services companies with operations in more than 80 countries, is the latest company to employ CTP’s services. Following discussions with the in-country manager of Halliburton Azerbaijan, Randy Gilchrist, CTP has been asked to deliver the Well Operations Crew Resource Management (WOCRM) programme to all of the company’s Product Supply Line (PSLs) personnel. Ever mindful of safety and minimising human error, Halliburton aims to develop its team to the next level of performance to continuously safeguard personnel and resources – and maximise efficiency.

Training began in May 2014 with three, two-day programmes to deliver six WOCRM modules to Halliburton Azerbaijan supervisors and front line personnel. Formal quantitative evaluation and anecdotal feedback has highlighted the success of the project and the work is ongoing. The roll out will continue with a two-day programme run every week, with follow-up one-to-one coaching and support.

Commented CTP’s Managing Director, Phil Smith, “We applaud the on-going commitment Halliburton has made to continually develop and safeguard its team and resources. We are very pleased to be working with this multinational company, which is a leader in its field. To date all training sessions have been very well received both by participants and their supervisors. In particular, post session feedback has been very positive.”

Following this course, as part of their personal commitment to improved working and safety, participants pledged to make relevant change to their behaviours, including to:

Stop asking questions and giving the answer in the same sentence

Start doing de-briefs and asking the team ‘what went well’, ‘why did it go well’ and ‘what could be improved’.

Start using an analytical decision-making model when possible

Start being more vigilant and ‘open my eyes’ in routine tasks

Start paying more attention to checklists and procedures

The opportunity to work with Halliburton follows CTP’s leading role in the production of the recommended practice training document for Well Operations Crew Resource Management, non technical skills, commissioned by the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP). Halliburton learnt about the company’s work during a presentation by Managing Director of CTP, Phil Smith, at the BP Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey contractors’ annual safety forum in 2013.
