CTP Delivers 6-Month Situation Awareness Training Programme for QGC, Australia

At QGC's Well Engineering One Team Forum last Autumn, the company confirmed its commitment to improving Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) performance. As part of this initiative, CTP's Phil Smith and Andy Meeker were invited to work closely with Well Engineering personnel to scope and develop a bespoke non-technical skills package. The One Team Forum was a fantastic opportunity for CTP to engage and gain feedback from over 700 of QGC's Well Engineers. As a result, CTP delivered a six month situation awareness training intervention to 300 QGC contractors in the field.
As result of the training to date, initial feedback directly from individuals engaged on the programme suggests contractors will
- Stop assuming the job will be without problems.
- Start focusing on the surroundings of the job rather than just the job itself
- Start with more feedback from others and stop making assumptions
- Stop running at a sub-conscious level when performing critical tasks.
- Beware of complacency and repetition.
- Stop taking for granted that people understand the procedures.
- Ask more questions if unsure
The CTP training was well received with contractors praising the company for its interactive presentations, which were well explained with prime examples that relate to everyday life.
