Critical Team Performance - Passionate about Excellence
Programme:

Crew Resource Management for Leaders

Within Well Engineering, there is a business critical need to prepare teams for the changes that will transform the business in the coming years, specifically:

  • inexperienced crews
  • inexperienced supervisors
  • repetitive complacency
  • new rig start-up
  • implementation of Well Operations Crew Resource Management (CRM) training

Critical to these business needs is good change management and leadership. The Critical Team Performance CRM Leaders Programme, is a talent development initiative aimed at the learning needs of the industry’s leadership positions. Specifically, it develops leaders to better understand the human factors affecting their team’s performance while increasing their own self-awareness and critical thinking skills. In doing so, safety-culture is enabled.

“Without a positive safety culture and climate it could be said that there is already resistance in the environment into which safety schemes and programmes are being implemented, possibly dooming any programme to failure at the outset.” Safety culture in maintenance, Farrington-Darby, et al 2005

  • Human performance & limitations (fatigue, stress & lifestyle factors)

  • Transformational leadership development
  • Developing critical thinking

Methodology & Training Approach

This programme begins by developing participants’ knowledge and understanding of human factors, human error, and non-technical skills. Next it shifts the focus of learning onto the leaders themselves, challenging participants to critically self-reflect and challenge their own leadership beliefs, assumptions and managerial style. In doing so, it aims to take leaders beyond the stereotypical transactional leadership approaches to a transformational mind-set.

A transformational leadership approach shifts the focus from control-based safety practices that increase compliance through rewards and punishment to an approach in which the leader develops and communicates a vision for a safe workplace and inspires all organisational members to actively participate in safety practices. What is more, by developing the individual’s self-awareness and overall emotional-intelligence, better workplace relationships and employee engagement are facilitated.

The programme employs a blend of techniques to make full use of people's learning abilities.

  • workshop facilitation
  • experiential and action learning
  • group and individual coaching

The collaborative process helps people to take an active-stance, leading to individuals assuming responsibilty and ownership for personal change.
