Why are you passionate about excellence?
One of the questions that I often get asked is, “how do you do your best self?” It’s perhaps a little easier to answer “what are you like when you are at your best?” but knowing how to be or do your best consistently, or be ‘excellent’ is often not thought about or fully understood.Being your most excellent self is powerful, it is liberating, it helps transform dreams into reality and most importantly for me, it positively affects others.
Why are you passionate about people development?
Tough question!... (30 minutes later). When I reflect on my own journey and where my passion for people development has come from, the thought that keeps coming back is about engagement. When development is with people, when we truly understand the needs of those we are ‘developing’ it is transformational (and it’s this kind of transformational development that will change your organisation). I can’t lie either; being in this environment is hugely satisfying and strangely addictive!
Which three words sum up leadership for you?
Enabling – Vision - Zeal
Who is your Leadership inspiration and why?
You probably don’t know Adrian Turton. A PE teacher standing at 6’6”, this man had presence. Cycling the long journey to school every day in his canvas white shorts, in sleet, rain, snow or shine, this man had determination. Running all of the afterschool and weekend events, this man had passion and commitment. And cycling to his cancer treatments, this man had courage to the end. You don’t need to look far to find ordinary people that do extraordinary things.
